Independent artists' project
LOCUS is a project initiated by Stephanie Schober to enable a space for independent artists to engage in choreographic, visual arts, performance and cross-art research and development. Sharing of ideas and peer-mentoring are integral to this project, which is driven by the desire to create in the company and with the support of others, building a flourishing community of artists over time.
Between 2014 and 2019, a series of Exchanges of Practice were hosted by DanceEast in Ipswich. Coming together through a regional and international network, independent artists took turn in leading studio sessions based on their current creative interests. Participation was by invitation, aimed at artists living in the East of England, and free. Events were supported by the Arts Council England, DanceEast, Independent Dance and Dance @ University of Suffolk.
Living in someone else's creative process for a brief moment, questions, vulnerabilities and provocations could be shared and explored in a nourishing environment.
